AllynMarie Smedley, founder of Smedley Law Group, P.C., is a strong advocate for her clients. Her guiding philosophy is that working toward a practical solution to a family law issue is far better for a client and their family emotionally and financially than protracted litigation.

Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney AllynMarie Smedley has focused her practice solely in the area of family law, including divorce, pre- and post-marital agreements, support and alimony, child support and custody, college contribution matters, spousal support,  grandparent visitation, equitable distribution, paternity determinations, parenting time, domestic violence, non-traditional family law, settlement negotiations, wills and adoptions. She also handles family law matters requiring Appellate Division review.

Ms. Smedley joined Trace Jenkins in 2006 and became a partner in the firm in January 2014. She founded Smedley & Lis in October 2015 and launched the Smedley Law Group, P.C. in December 2019. As a capable litigator and negotiator, she brings a new energy and vision to the firm, while still focusing on its core values of achieving realistic and practical outcomes for clients. Prior to joining Trace Jenkins in 2006, Ms. Smedley clerked for the Honorable Harold U. Johnson, Jr., P.J.F.P., Chancery Division, Family Part in Cumberland County where she received valuable training in the workings of the New Jersey Judiciary that continues to benefit her clients to this day.

Ms. Smedley has a strong commitment to her community, as demonstrated by her many charitable activities. In 2012, she founded the William T. Nace Scholarship Foundation, which provides college scholarships to high school seniors who show a financial need, an effort that was recognized in the October 2012 Super Women issue of South Jersey Magazine.

In addition, she sits on the board of directors for the Gateway Community Action Partnership, a community action agency that helps low- and moderate-income residents of seven South Jersey counties overcome roadblocks to self-sufficiency. Ms. Smedley also served as a co-coach for Delsea High School’s Mock Trial team for three years, working with students to develop their litigation skills in a mock trial setting. Ms. Smedley was the president of the Gloucester County Bar Association for the 2019-2020 year, becoming the eighth female president in the Association’s history; she is currently the immediate past president.

Why I’m Passionate About Family Law

As someone who’s watched family members go through the pain of divorce, I realize many view it as a life-ending event. However, while divorce is a life-changing event, it can be a positive one. I’ve helped so many people through the process who tell me they have better lives once we’ve settled their matter. I’m also an advocate for people who have previously gone through a divorce, since additional issues that affect their lives often arise post-judgment. I want my clients to know that they have a voice in the divorce process, and that a split is never a referendum on them as a person. Many marriages don’t work out, and it’s my goal to help you through the process with as little stress as possible and achieving a result you can live with for years to come.

I’ll begin our meeting with, “How can I help you?” I’ll invite you to tell me your story so we can uncover your “why” and what you hope to get out of the process. Whether you’re filing for divorce, need to modify a prior agreement or want to consult on any other family law matter, my goal is to set your expectations for your personal outcome, ensuring that I focus on your family’s interests. In addition, you’ll meet my associates and support staff so you can become familiar with the team of professionals who’ll be assisting in your matter. We’ll also discuss key ways to maximize the use of your funds during this process. One of my superpowers is that I’m an excellent researcher and writer; that means I’m always prepared for court and am an excellent advocate in front of the judge. Finally, I empower my clients to play an active role in the outcome of their case. Remember, you do have control over your future, and I’m here to help you achieve that vision while setting realistic expectations for results.
